This paper mainly focuses on the narrative techniques used in Dry September. At the very beginning of the story, Faulkner dexterously introduces ＂narrative ellipsis＂ to produce the cliff - hanging suspense which intensifies the theme of despicable human nature. The author also combines ＂ dramatic dialogue＂ and ＂ pictorial description＂ together to show the complicated inner world of the different classes and the distortion of human nature brought by the racialism. Faulkner breaks up the conventional time sequence and adopts ＂ chronological deviation＂ to reveal the modern life is out of order.
