Economical Globalization and the Modern Borderland Theories of the West

边疆属于一定的历史范畴。不同的历史时代有不同的边疆观。四、五百年前,资本主义作为一种新的生产关系产生后,对传统的边疆观提出了新的挑战。对利润永不满足的追求,驱使资产阶级奔走于全球各地。它必须到处落户,到处开发。资本主义大工业"首次开创了世界历史,……因为它消灭了各国以往自然形成的闭关自守的状态"。①资产阶级在争夺"势力范围",以及在追逐"势力范围"的延伸的过程中,各种五花八门的"边疆理论"应运而生。在经济全球化的背景下,西方又提出了以国家利益拓展线划界的"利益边疆"理论,公然鼓吹西方大国生存与发展利益要冲破本土疆域,这不能不引起世界各国人民的高度警觉。在21世纪新的历史条件下,探究西方边疆理论的演变,是十分必要的。

Borderland belongs to a certain historical category and in different historical periods there are different borderland concepts. About five hundred years ago, capitalism as a new kind of production relations emerged and posed a new challenge to the old borderland concepts. The capitalist class went to everywhere in the world to obtain insatiable interests and the capitalist industry ＂created a new world history because it brought an end to the closed--door policy of other countries inherited from the past. ＂ The capitalist class has produced different kinds of borderland theories in its carving out the spheres of influence. In the age of economic globalization, the Western countries have produced a borderland interest theory based on their national interests and advocate that their survival and development should not be confined within their territory, which should alert the people of the world to their hidden intention. Thus, it is worth while to study the development of the borderland theories of the West in the 21^st century.
