In early 2009 the new-generation HAT-099 catalyst for disproportionation and transalkylation of toluene developed by SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute (SPRI) was applied in commercial operation at the Tianjin Petrochemical Company and the Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company, respectively. The catalyst loading was significantly reduced upon adoption of the HAT-099 catalyst in two process units. The operation data have revealed that this catalyst under high space velocity has achieved high throughput of heavy aromatics and showed high reaction activity with increased yield of toluene, resulting in good economic benefits.
