The Aesthetic Significance of Qian Mu's Thought in History Science

The characteristics of Qian Mu＇s historiography lies in that he made the research connecting the history and culture. The hackle of history and culture has an aesthetic value, too. Qian Mu thinks that the cultural spirit of a nation is the main body and core in the study of the historiography. History and culture which embodies national spirit is the groundwork of the existence and development of a nationality. At the same time, he considers that the historiography is the knowledge of life, and the history has a sort of lively spirit and power in its continuous evolution. The history spirit is the cru- cial force that affect and push social progress. The cultural spirit is the most essential contents of the historical spirit.
