摘要
网络外部性下企业间技术竞争呈现与传统模式不一样的特征,以下一代DVD格式之争案例,运用两阶段Hotelling模型,分析存在网络外部性条件下企业技术竞争问题。结果表明:技术兼容选择和标准化激励成为技术竞争的核心,硬件厂商的兼容选择取决于其技术优势,软件厂商的标准化激励取决于网络效应的大小,而企业的竞争策略也将对竞争结果产生重要影响。
With network externalities, technology competitiveness of a firm is different from conventional industry. With the market competition of next generation DVD standard as a case, a two-stage Hotelling model is presented to analyze the competition properties with network externalities. It is shown that techno- logical compatibility and standardization are the key factors in this competition. Thus, compatibility for hardware manufacturers depends on their technological superiority, while standardization for software man- ufacturers depends on the network effectiveness. In addition, competition strategy of a firm has also an im- portant effect on the competitiveness.
