Abstract Scientific deep drilling has been launched around the world for thirty years,and striking progression has been accomplished on the hnowledge of structure,composition and evolution of the Earth with some results being astonishing.The world has been focusing their attention on the favorable geological conditions in China.Scientific deep drilling program will make a great contribution to the global lithosphere as a result of being approved to be a significant scientific engineering project in the 'Ninth Five-year Plan'by Chinese government.This article emphasizes on the advanced technology of scientific drilling with distinctive Chinese features:(1) synthetic diamond drilling having been used in a full-scale;(2) non-coring drilling in part of the hole sections having been changed into core drilling in the full hole;(3) wireline core drilling substantially increasing production time and decreasing the time limit for a project;(4) core systems driven by down hole motor;(5) small diameter drill hale having been employed;(6) drilling equipment controlled automatically having been researched and developed. Above techniques are all developed on the basis of the latest achievemnets in scientific research of our own.this project woll be accomplished mainly on self-reliance,as quickly as possible,with the lowest cost and with the latest techniques.
