Scholarly Periodicals and the Research and Exchange of World Literature

中国的期刊是借西学东渐之风发展起来的。最早的中文期刊是英国耶稣会教士于1815年在马六甲共同创立的《察世俗每月统记传》,中国最早的文学期刊当属晚清四大小说杂志：《新小说》、《绣像小说》、《月月小说》、《小说林》。期刊是发表和交流研究成果的重要平台或载体,因此其影响力直接关系到学术成果的传播与影响。就中国的文学研究而论,从新文学运动开始,学术期刊已经在世界文学的研究与交流方面发挥重要作用,其基本特点是外国文学的输入。当前,中国的学术期刊在同国际接轨方面存在相当大的差距,需要在期刊专业化、优秀化和国际化方面做出努力。

Periodicals appeared in China as a product of the influence of the Western scholarship. The first Chinese magazine Cha Shi Su Mei Yue Tong Ji Zhuan （Mundane Life Monthly） was inaugurated by British clergymen in Malay in 1815 and the first literary periodicals in China are Xin Xiao Shuo （ New Fiction） , Xiu Xiang Xiao Shuo （ Illustrated Novels ）, Yue Yue Xiao Shuo （ Novels Monthly）, and Xiao Shuo Lin （Forest of Novels） , all appearing in the late Qing Dynasty. Periodicals serve as an important platform for publication and exchange and thus have a vital impact on the diffusion and influence of academic fruits. As regards China＇ s literary study, scholarly journals have been playing an active role in the research and academic exchange ever since the New Literature Movement, featured essentially by the importation of foreign literature. Nowadays, the development of Chinese scholarly journals still lags behind compared with the outside world. Efforts must be made in the professionalization, optimalization and internationalization of the scholarly journals.
