A thorough study of the Japanese army's policy towards the prisoners of war(POWs)of the Allies during World War Ⅱ can help to know the Japanese army's attitude towards the war,and Japan's attitude towards America and the UK at the country level. The Shenyang prison-of-war camp was the only one established by the Japanese army in the mainland of China during World War Ⅱ.Therefore a study of the correspondence between Japan and the United States concerning the war prisoners is a key to understand the Japanese army's policy towards the relevant issues. This thesis argues that the Japanese army generally abode by the International War Criminal Convention in treating American and British POWs,whereas Chinese POWs were not treated accordingly and obvious discrimination existed. Therefore,it is significant to study the comprehensive historical factors for the difference.
