张九龄是中国历史上一位有远见的政治家,他于唐开元四年(公元716年)主持开凿大庾岭新路,开凿这条新路,加强了岭南与中原的联系,对岭南政治、经济、文化和社会的稳定发挥了重要的作用。

Zhang Jiuling was a far-sighted politician in the history of China. It has been more than 1280 years since he presided over the cutting of the new road of Dayuling in the fourth year of Emperor Kaiyuan （the year 716 A.D.）, which was an important road in Lingnan area in the Tang Danasty. It not only strengthened the contact with the Central Plains, but also played an important role in maintaining the political, economic, cultural and social stability in Lingnan area.
