摘要
20世纪前期是美国中等教育大变革的时代,传统主义教育日渐式微,实用主义教育迅速传播并一度占据统治地位,随着经济社会的发展,新传统主义教育渐渐兴起。本文以美国教育思想的发展演进为时代背景,以教育文化为视角解读《麦田守望者》,首先介绍小说主人公霍尔顿所处时代的美国中等教育状况,而后分析潘西式教育失败的根源,最后在美国当时的教育环境中诠释了霍尔顿的呼唤。
The first half of 20th century witnessed great educational reforms in U.S.A. While traditional education was fading away,pragmatic education came on the stage and once took dominant position. With the social and economic development,the new traditional education became prevailing. Set in the social context of the evolution of America's educational ideas,this paper examines The Catcher in the Rye from the viewpoint of educational culture,which first introduces the educational status of Holden's time,then analyses the origin of the failure of Pencey Prep's education and finally illustrates the appeal of Holden in the educational background of that time and reflects the America's educational reforms of the early 20th century.
