On the Interpersonal Functions of the Modal Verbs in English Political Speeches

情态动词是语篇表达人际意义的重要手段。政治演讲语篇包含丰富的人际意义。各类情态语义在政治演讲语篇中的分布情况表明,运用具有认识、道义、动力等不同情态意义的情态动词,有助于演讲者调节与听者关系并说服听者,从而实现演讲语篇所具有的"求取"等人际功能。

Political speeches include large interpersonal meanings, which are mainly realized by modal verbs. Through analyzing the distribution of different modal meanings in the political speeches, this paper reveals that the modal verbs with epistemic and dynamic meanings have played great role in helping to accomplish the specific aims of political speeches.
