The measurement principles of edge method for studying the fundamental transverse mode of He-Ne laser are introduced and the experimental set-up and results are reported. The method can confirm the Gaussian distribution of optical intensity for the fundamental transverse mode of the He-Ne laser and determine the size of its light spot.
