清代薛福成家族文化初探

The Elementary Research on the Culture of Xue Fucheng's Family in Qing Dynasty

薛福成家族(即无锡城西薛氏家族)诗礼传家、名人辈出,入清以来逐步形成了颇具个性的文化传统,主要表现为:读书明理、百业皆本;家族教育、男女兼重;崇尚实学、经世致用;顺应时代、积极转型等。薛福成家族的教育活动也颇有活力,体现在教育价值与目的、教育内容和教育方法等各个方面。薛福成家族文化的这些特色正是该家族在近代中国历史上作出重要贡献的奥秘所在。

The poetics and etiquette were handed down in the Xue family of Wuxi （namely Xue Fucheng＇s family） generation by generation and thus celebrities came forth in great numbers in it. The family had formed distinctive cultural traditions gradually since Qing Dynasty, mainly as follows. They read for reasoning, and advocated that all businesses were basic; in family education, males and females were treated equal; They emphasized useful learning in terms of practical principle; and they strived to move with the times, and transformed the mode of development accordingly. Their educational activities were quite vigorous, embodied in the educafional value and purpose, the contents of education and teaching methods, and so on. These distinctive cultural characteristics of Xue family manifested the secret of the great contributions made in the contemporary history of China.
