Comments on Xun Zi's Poetics

荀子系统总结了先秦儒家各个学派的成就,构建了自己一套完整的诗学理论。荀子规范了"诗言志"的概念内涵,剔除了其中的情感因素,将儒家对理想人格的追求纳入这一理论中,是春秋时期的赋诗言志说发展到汉代儒家诗教理论的中间环节。他不仅提高了《诗经》的地位,而且将礼贯穿其中,认为学习《诗经》是为了认识并实践礼。荀子引《诗》主要是为其礼义学说服务,是先秦儒家将《诗经》政治化的典型代表。

Xun Zi systematically summarized each Confucian school of thought in pre-Qin period.He constructed his own complete poetics theory.Xun Zi not only improved the status of the Book of Songs,but also put rites throughout all his poetics in discussing the Book of Songs.The objective of Xun Zi s quotation of the Book of Songs was for his rite and morality theory.He was the representative of Confucianism politicizing the Book of Songs.
