建设"资源节约型、环境友好型"的两型社会,是国家推进改革和发展的重大举措。在两型社会建设中,统计方法大有用武之地,主要表现在:运用统计语言对两型社会进行刻画并对其建设规划的制定提供支持,通过建立监测指标体系对两型社会的建设进程进行监测和评价,从纵横两方面对两型社会的建设效应进行统计研究以反映两型社会建设的成效;构建系统运行的统计方法对两型社会建设进行统计模拟和决策选优。

To build a two- oriented society which is resources- conserving and environment- friendly constitutes a major measure taken by our country to promote reform and development. In the process of building such a two - oriented society, statistical method could have its great role to play, but the research about how to bring this method to serve for this society building is falling far behind. We tried to make a preliminary study, including： the way to depict the two- oriented society by statistical language and provide support for the construction planning; monitoring and evaluating the construction process through setting up a monitoring indicator system; making a statistical research about the two - oriented society building effect from the vertical and horizontal perspective to reflect the results; carrying statistical simulation and decision making optimization of the two- oriented society building by making statistical method of system operation.
