Scott Fitzgerald's fictions make introspection on America's modernization in the early 1920s from industrialization, urbanization and immigration. The auto industry, symbol for Americans' moral degeneration, has developed to a means for the idle rich of showing off their wealth, and car accidents have brought about destructive influences on human beings. The agricultural West, influenced by the highly urbanized East, is on the way of vanishment of traditional morality. Meanwhile, at- tention has been drawn to the tendency of immigrants' deviation of their mother cultures and surrender to the "advanced" civilization preached by colonists.
