It＇s not impartial to assign too low an evaluation to Smith＇s international trade theories with eyes keeping on the limitations of advantage theory only. Based on a criticism of mercantilism system, Smith has made a multi-dimensional theoretical exploration into the causes and interests of international trades. That not only lays the ideological foundation for the tradi tional trade theories of Ricardo and his followers, but also provides a logical starting point for the development of new trade theories and political economics theories of trade policies. The monumental international trade theories of Smith should be affirmed in its academic contribution and status.
