园林景观设计一般指用活植物做的设计,对利用枯、老、死植物于景观设计的作用尚缺少研究。这种在传统园林观念中没有什么生态价值的特殊植物材料却有着其独有的园林价值。在活植物材料作为主导的园林景观设计中,适当运用些枯死植物进行点缀甚至是做主景,将会增加园林中某些区域甚至全园的趣味和特色。

The landscape design in general refers to the use of live plants to do the design, while the use of withered, old, or dead plants in landscape design has been seldom studied. Those special plant materials, seemingly no ecological value in traditional landscape conception, have their unique landscape value instead. In the landscape design with live plants as the leading materials, the appropriate use of these withered or dead plants as the ornament or the main scene will help create the touting interest and features in part or whole of the landscape.
