An Analysis of the Features of Telephone Conversation Openings

电话会话作为一种特殊的会话类型,其开头受到不同文化中潜在的会话规则的制约。电话会话开头往往反映出通话人间的关系密切程度、文化层次及地位身份。本文重点讨论陌生人间不同类型电话会话开头的共性及特性,并从语用功能的角度对英汉文化中陌生人间的电话会话开头进行比较。

Telephone conversations are a special type of conversation, and their openings are generally restricted by different conversational rules in diverse cultures. The openings of telephone conversations always reflect how close the relationship is between the callers and the respondents, their educational backgrounds and social status. This paper focuses on the analysis of the general and specific features of various telephone conversation openings which happen between strangers. It also compares telephone conversation openings between strangers in Chinese culture and those in English culture from the perspective of pragmatic functions.
