The financial statements of Q2Y09 show that Tencent posted total revenue of RMB28,784 million, an increase of 79.9% YOY. Its operating profit was RMB13,989 million, an increase of 82.8% YOY. This significant growth that has continued since its listing is generally attributed to Tencent’ s troika which consists of the traditional Internet value-added business, mobile and telecom value-added business, and Web-based advertisements which are widely recognized as the main driving force behind the company’s strong performance. According to Ma Huateng, Chairman and CEO of Tencent, this accomplishment is mainly attributable to the fact that Tencent has a defensive business model. He believes that this sound business model of Tecent will continue to work effectively in 2010.
