In the development of mathematics, important new problems and research areas keep arising. It was necessary to consider the question, in the graduate education, that how to pay close attention to the frontier developments in mathematics. In 1950s, professor Kien-Kwong Chert had been leading his students to explorer new research directions; this resulted in producing not only research results but also researchers. Reviewing the history and understanding professor Chen＇s thoughts on mathematical education should be useful in searching an answer to the above question.
