The English writing competence is the reflection of the learner＇ s English language competence and his/her ability to use English, and also the reflection of the learner＇ s ability to use cohesive devices. The text analysis can be of great help for the learners to fully understand the meaning of the language and express themselves coherently and exactly while the study of the cohesion theory can help the learners to understand the structure of the text and realize the coherence of the text. The systemic and functional linguistics has a great and positive impact on the college English writing by helping the learners understand the discourse/text and grasp the cohesive devices and writing skills of different genres.
