This paper discusses architecture and scientific and technological development in the 20th century, the challenge of new technology architects are faced with, the tapping of building technologies in the future and the new prospects of 21st century architectural science and technology.The writer thinks that architects will face the challenge of new technology in five aspects:1) New challenge faced by traditional building technology and local color.2) New technology and aesthetic philosophy need to be reexamined.3) The degree of liberty in new technology will promote changes in building types.4) The scientific and technological components in architectural creation will improve incessantly5) A pro-human view of technology needs to be established.One special feature about the prospects of 21st century building science and technology is that the world 'will continue to be vexed by problems like population explosion, shortage of energy resources and environmental pollution, the gap in building science and technology development between developed and developing countries, which are complicated by the rapid development and popularization of science and technology as well as the intermingling of different disciplines and emergence of vanguard disciplines.The 21st century will be a period of scientific and technological development and architectural revolution. Architects from the world over will carry out cross-region cooperation and march into the future hand in hand. Ecological architecture, intelligent architecture, health and green architecture and the development of applicable technology in green cities have built up humanity's confidence in continuous development in the process of common subsistence in the new century.
