Raymond Williams’ Reflections on Literary Paradigm

本文通过简单梳理库恩的范式理论在文学界的接受,对比分析雷蒙德·威廉斯的文学范式观。威廉斯创造性地借用了库恩的范式理论,提出工作性的文学范式定义。他以当时英语研究为例阐明文学范式是动态发展的历史连续体,文学范式之间是可通约的。同时,他对自己的文学研究方法进行反思和定位,表明自己开创了文化唯物主义的文学研究方法范式。

This paper analyzes Raymond Williams’ paradigmatic views on Literary Studies by comparing with the reception of Kuhn’s paradigm theory in literary field. First he puts forth a working definition of literary paradigm. Then he takes the development of modern English Studies as an example to explain that literary paradigm is a growing historical continuum, and the literary paradigms are commensurable. Finally, he assures that his cultural materialism is at the beginning of a new dominant literary paradigm.
