A Cognitive Contrastive Study on Emotional Expressions of Fear in Chinese and English

通过对英汉"恐惧"情感隐喻的比较研究,对比跨文化隐喻的相似性、差异性及其隐含的模式:相似性揭示了情感隐喻源于共同的身体体验,具有相同的心理和生理基础,具有普遍性;而差异性则说明情感隐喻同时受到英汉不同的文化因素的影响,不可避免地表现出各种差异,呈现出地域环境特征、民族文化特征等含义。

By a comparative study of Chinese - English ＂fear＂ emotional metaphors, the similarity and difference of crossculture metaphors and related implicit modes are discussed. The similarity reveals that the emotion metaphors originate from the same physical experience and share common psychological and physical foundation which has universality. Meanwhile, the difference indicates that the emotion metaphors are influenced by various cultural factors and inevitably reflect the differences featured with regional environments and the national cultures.
