In America, Kafka uses the rootless roaming of its main character Karl Rossmann to illustrate and prophesy precisely the fate of mankind, i.e. pursuit of freedom but is always in exile. For Kafka, a philosophical reflection of fate, and a dialectical understanding of chanciness and inevitability are exactly the embodiment of his sense of predestination. In his eyes, between "search" and "discovery", perhaps only when we give up our search shall we finally discover the ultimate meaning of life.
