摘要
与新文化派重实用而轻人文、重现代而轻传统的教育思想不同,吴宓提出培养"博雅之士"的"通才"教育的思想,其目的是为建设中国新文化造就既能会通中西,又有专业的新人才。吴宓的教育思想以柏拉图的"一多并在"为哲学基础,秉承传统儒家的教育思想,并以白璧德新人文主义为新的视野,指出教育的本质在于"学以为己"、"教以成人",故而吴宓非常注重教育在涵养人性、培植道德、救国经世方面的伦理作用,在他的教育思想中传达出传统儒家和新人文主义改良人心、提倡道德的主张。
Being different from the school of the New Culture Movement whose educational ideas were laid more stress on pragmatism than humanism and more on the western than the Chinese tradition,Wu Mi proposed his educational doctrine that the learned should be cultivated via liberal education in order to bring up a new generation who should apply themselves to buliding the Chinese New Culture commnunicated with the western culture.Based on "One-and-many"of Plato's,philosophically inheriting Chinese traditional Confucian ideas on his educational thought and using Irving Babbitt's Neo-humanism as his new theoretical viewpoint,Wu held his educational thought that the essence of education is that "to learn is to be oneself" and "to be taught is to be a human talent" so that he ethically paid close attention to cultivating human nature,developing one's moral and saving our nation.His ethical thought on education conveyed the ideas from Chinese traditional Confucianism and Babbitt's Neo-humanism.
