Objective To evaluate the effect of peer education on the living habits of patients with metabolic syndrome, and to provide scientific basis for health education for them. Methods Totally,87 patients with metabolic syndrome were divided randomly into an observational group (38 cases) and a control group (49 cases). Patients in the control group were subjected to conventional health education, while their counterparts in the observational group received peer health education, namely that peer educators were selected and trained strictly, and they conducted education to the patients through group education and individual education. The intervention persisted for 4 weeks. Results Two or six months after intervention, the desire of drinking wine in the observational group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the observational group attended more frequent physical exercises than the control group (P〈0.05 for both). Conclusion Peer education has a certain advantage in changing the bad living habits of patients with metabolic syndrome.
