Results of researching strata movement and its control are confined in experience level and hardly raised up to quantitive theoretical level, which bring operators difficulties in mastering and applying relevant technology because environmental complexity of workings roof underground.In order to improve economical benefits of production and safety at collieries,it is highly important to develop roof control expertsystem(RCES)which includes a numerous results of theory and practice,and is able to simulate thinking process and making decision to a certain extent.The system can be used to help technicians with designing roof Control. The paper presents RCES for longwall face with hydraulic props and some examples of its application.with the aid of RCES, thickness of immediatte roof, thickness of main roof formation, movement parameters, reasonable selection of supports,valuation of yield capacity of support,distance of roof control,method of floor control, method of support roof, support density, protective measures against accidents and special supporting measures etc. will be printed after inputting parameters of roof and floor and other geological conditions. RCES adeptes Chinese in asking and answering and explaining. RCES can be used at PC conveniently.
