Roof Control Design and Practice of Very Hard Roof in Coalface Instead of Knife and Pillar Mining Method in Mentougou Mine-

In the Mentougou Mine, the seam and roof are very hard and the roof conditions in defferant area are raeat defferent.The mine is used to have a knife and pillar mining mehtod to control the very hard roof for many years. Since 1984, it was first time to use a high grade conventional longwall mining instead of the knife and pillar mining in Wuzhao Seam. To further reform the mining method and to develop the coal mining mechanisation in the main mining seam, Mentougou Mine had a technical coperation with Shandong Mining Collage. In the begining of Dec.1989, they conducted a research and trail mining in Erzhao Seam instead of the knife and pillar mining. The practice shown that the rational design of rcof control on base certain seam condition and the monitoring of roof movement during the mining for the guardance of roof control method are the effective way for scientific roof control and safe coal production. This paper presented a brief induction of the trail mining, rcof control method and, implementation and reesults of roof control.
