The Issue of "Form and Matter" in Kant’s Ethics:A Study of Critique of Practical Reason

康德伦理学因与中国哲学的"因缘"而备受中国学者的关注,又因所谓的"形式主义"与"严格主义"而在中西方都引起争议。那么,究竟在康德那里,何谓"形式",何谓"质料"?称他的伦理学为"形式主义伦理学"是否合适?在何种意义上,这一伦理学形态还有继续发展的空间?本文拟通过对文本的认真解读,管窥这些问题。

Kant’s ethics often attracts the Chinese scholars’ attention because of its 'relevance' to Chinese philosophy, but it is also criticized both in China and in the West because of the so-called 'formalism' and 'rigorism'. But what are the real meanings of Kant’s 'form' and 'matter'? Is it appropriate to call this ethics 'ethics of formalism'? In which sense does this ethics have room for development? The answers to these questions based on a textual study of Critique of Practical Reason are the focus of this study.
