谭延闿与湖南早期现代化

Tan Yan-kai and the Early Modernization of Hunan Province

20世纪初期,谭延闿三次督湘,大力发展湖南的实业建设,重视教育发展,倡导省自治运动,对湖南的早期现代化进程作出了重要的贡献。但是,由于史学界长期以来较多关注谭延闿的政治态度,而对其在湖南早期的现代化中的作用未能提及,因而影响了对谭延闿作出全面公允的评价。

Tan Yan-kai acted as Hunan provincial Governor for three times in the early 20th century. He was quite unique in such practices of insights as developing local industry, attaching great importance to education development, advocating self-governmental campaign, etc. These measures pushed ahead the progress of modernization in Hunan. Because history studies paid greater attention to his political attitude, his contribution to the early modernization of Hunan was somewhat neglected. Consequently, he deserves a proper evaluation in the history of the Hunan Province.
