Lu Xun s essays consist chiefly of cultural criticisms and current-affair reviews.His achievement in the former is much greater than in the latter as he is a cultural thinker.The kernel value of his cultural criticism lies in its enlightenment and its rethinking of traditional Chinese culture.His cultural criticism is focused on three key issues,i.e.,advocacy of the national spirit and consciousness of retrospection and rethinking,exploration for and exposure of the essence of the traditional culture in feudal China as well as the reasons for its collapse, and probe into and exhibition of the deep-rooted bad habits of Chinese people.
