摘要
吴宓认为政治的根本在于道德,欲救世救国,就必须解决人的问题,而人的根本在其精神与道德;要改善人性、培植道德,当重视和发挥宗教的德化功能。吴宓在参酌白璧德新人文主义关于宗教认识的基础上,结合自己的世界观、人生观,诠释了宗教的本质及社会功用,厘清了宗教与道德的关系,并以此来链结中国传统儒家思想,阐释其宗教性,从而为弘扬传统伦理道德、重塑人的精神世界提供一份终极力量。
Wu Mi thought that human moral is the basis of national politics. Moral functions of religion should be emphasized and exerted to improve human nature and cultivate people' s moral in order to save the nation and even the world. On the basis of Irving Babbitt' s religious consciousness on Neo - humanism, he interpreted the essence of religion and social functions and clarified the relationship between moral and religion for the sake of linking Chinese traditional Confucianism and explaining its religious identity. His purpose was to offer an ultimate impetus to develop and expand Chinese traditional ethic morals and reconstruct the human spiritual world.
