Appraisal Resources Employed by Authors of Scientific Research Articles

This paper explores some appraisal resources employed by authors of research articles of engineering and analyses resources by which the authors convey their attitude and certainty to and judgment of the claims and propositions.Three categories of markers—attitude,certainty and common knowledge markers are presented.The analysis indicates that the appraisal resources effectively assist authors to emphasize claims and to gain reader s agreement and community consensus.
