Appeals for Christian Spiritual Resources of "Post-Lu Xun Style" Writers since the 1990s

在1990年代中国掀起的一股杂文随笔旋风中,有不少作家是在鲁迅的直接影响下进行创作的,但鲁迅却无法给他们提供宗教信仰的资源,他们不约而同地寻找新的精神资源——基督教精神资源。他们寻找宗教精神资源绝非孤立或偶然产生的文化现象,而具有深刻的社会历史文化原因和现实原因。他们的理想追求对于中国现实来说无疑是崇高而必要的,但又是路途迢遥而坎坷的。

Since the 1990s, a trend of post-Lu Xun essay writing emerged in China, and most of those writers were directly influenced by Lu Xun. Because Lu Xun did not provide them with resources of religious beliefs, they all turned to look for new spiritual resources, i.e., Christian spiritual resources. Their search for spiritual resources of religious beliefs was not a cultural phenomenon that had appeared accidentally; instead, it had profound social, cultural and historical reasons. Although their ideals and pursuits were undoubtedly noble and necessary, their road was long and tortuous.
