The Traditional Art of New Ireland especially the sculpture art from northern region was characterized by very fine, three-dimensional,interlacing images that to a Western eye may appear to be one image blending to another.The finely painted surface of the carved wood added a further layer of visual ambiguity,Artistic skills were clear obvious.Many avant-garde artists in the early years of 20th century were fascinated by these art works.
