Electrical low pressure impactor (ELPI) is used to measure the particle emission characteristics of the engine when it is fueled with diesel, B20 and B100. After using the biodiesel, the amount of the particulate emitted by the engine will increase. Compared with B20 and the diesel, the amount of the emitted particulate of biodiesel is the largest in most cases, and the particle over is mainly from the ultrafine particles. The amount of the emitted particle is largely influenced by the rotate speed when the engine is fueled with B20. When in high rotate speed regions, or when in low rotate speed regions but heavily - loaded, the amount of the emitted particulate increases. The region where the amount is lower is at the speed of 1 400 - 1 600 r/min. The research result shows that there is no necessary relationship between the amount of the emitted particle and the mass of the emitted particulate matter. The measurements taken to reduce the mass of the particles may not be able to reduce the amount of particles. Considering that the particles can pollute the atmosphere and is harmful to the human health, it is necessary to restrict the amount of emitted particle.
