With an alienated and morbid anti-hero as the major character,A llfe in the Day of a Writer written by Tess Slesinger in 1935 bears out the characteristics of modernist theme. The hero's pursuit of the inspiration of writing symbolizes his discovery of and integration with the real serf. Yet the collapse of this very self generally follows at the heels of the newly-discovered serf.
