也谈今草的产生

Tentative Studies on Emergence of Jin Cao

历史上,关于今草产生时间的问题有两种观点影响较大,其中,"张芝创今草"的看法得到了越来越多学者的支持。但全面考查字体发展的历史就会发现,今草同其他字体一样,不能为某个人所独创,都有一个逐步形成的过程。而且,这个过程同正体字的演进如影相随。我们可以在这个渐进过程的每个阶段都找到相应的标志,从而将今草发生发展的脉络如实地展现出来。因而,简单地将今草产生的时间定在东晋或汉末都是不妥当的。

Historically, there are two influential assertions on the time when jin cao （a kind of cursive writing） came into being. The viewpoint of ＂creation of jin cao by Zhang Zhi＂ gains more and more support from scholars. However, an overall review on the developmental history of Chinese calligraphy styles indicates that like all other calligraphy styles, jin cao was formed gradually instead of being created by a single person. In addition, its formation was always accompanied by the evolution of zheng ti （print style）. Therefore, it is not appropriate to simply determine the late Hart Dynasty to be the formation time of this style of calligraphy.
