Strategical Functions of Information Technology in Logistics Management

This paper introduces the concepts of logistics and supply chain management.Taking the retail industry as an example,it discusses three main objectives of the logistics management system, i.e. shortening the pipeline,improving pipeline visibility and managing logistics as a system.Then,the paper analyses the types of information technology used in logistics management including,POS,EOS,VAN and EDI.With emphasis on EDI,this paper describes the strategic functions of information technology in realizing the objectives of the logistics management system.
