Objective: To investigate the effect of 0.1% tazarotene cream in short-contact maintaining therapy on the relapse of acne vulgaris. Methods: A muhicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled method was served in the study. One hundred and twenty-six patients of aene vulgaris whose conditions had reached grade Ⅰ after treatment according to Pillsbury' s classification standard were enrolled and divided into group A (tazarotene group) and group B (placebo). All patients were evaluated by Doshi's global acne grading system (GAGS). Then maintaining treatment was lasted for 12 weeks, and the condition of relapse was evaluated at 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Results: In group A which received tazarotene treatment the relapse rate was markedly lower than in control group (group B), the corresponding follow-up at 4,8 weeks after treatment revealed lower relapse rate than in control (group B)(χ^2= 5.255 and 8.147,P〈 0.05). There was no significant difference in regional side-effect in group A and group B no matter of mild, moderate or sever conditions. Conclusions: Short-contact maintaining therapy of 0.1% tazarotene cream could reduce the relapse rate of aene vulgaris patients, regional side-effect was acceptable which suggested an applying value of the treatment in clinics.
