Prof. Zhang KaiYuan,the famous historian,has brought forward the concept of 'participating history' in recent years. This article has introduced the background of 'participating history' ,and according to his academic researches and social activities,discussed Prof. Zhang's theory and practice about 'participating history' systematically. He always encourages that a historian ought to have the 'participating consciousness' ,and the science of history ought to participate in the actual lives. By participating in historical lives,historians can sum up the legacy of history,and explore wisdom in history,which can be used to carry out the deep thinking on a series of problems about China and the world's future,and participate in the creation of history thereby. He himself always chooses the problems having both academic value and practical significance for studying,and strives to look after the real problems. Not only does he have dialogue with the ancients,by actively participates in public activities,but also has dialogue with contemporaries. When participating in reality,he keeps in independence discipline character and individual personality. Through independent thinking and pursuing,he forms self unique academic style ultimately,which gives beneficial inspiring and enlightening to people.
