Objective The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of acute hypoxia on blood electrolytes balance. Methods Twelve healthy young men served as subjects. Oxygennitrogen gas mixtures containing 21%、14.5%、11.2% and 9.8% oxygen were inhaled to simulate normal condition and three different levels of hypoxia for 15 minutes. Electrolyte analyzer was used to determine the concentrations of Na+、Cl- and pH of venous blood. Results Concentrations of Na+ and Cl- decreased significantly (P<0.01) after exposure to each level of hypoxia; pH value didn't change obviously after exposure to 14.5% hypoxia (P>0.05), but decreased significantly after exposure to 11.2% and 9.8% hypoxia (P<0.05) as compared with that of the control. Conclusion The concentrations of blood electrolytes is sensitive to hypoxia. Its' fluctuation may probably cause a series of changes in humans, such as acid and alkaline imbalance, calcium imbalance, and blood cell injury etc. They are of great importance to space medical examination and protection.
