When discussing traditional festivals in the context of protecting intangible cultural heritages, people would often wonder which one is authentic and most representative but tend to neglect the local features of these festivals. Some of them even try to reconstruct local "customs" by simply copying general practices in other places, which are normally unrecognized by local people. Taking the Dragon Boat Festival in Hangzhou as an example, this paper summarizes related local features through literature review and field study and emphasizes the importance of protecting local customs in traditional festivals so as to guarantee cultural diversity today.
