Non-Material Attribute of Sacred Pictures in China and Their Protection

对于水陆画的保护,不能仅仅停留在对其物质形态的保护层面上,而是要深入到对其所蕴藏的传统文化精神层面即"非物质文化"属性的发掘中,如此,不仅成功保护好其物质属性,对其"无形文化"属性的研究利用也与当前"非物质文化遗产"保护的潮流相适应。

Sacred pictures here refer to those describing the religious figures popular in Buddhism, Taoism or other religions in China, often used in religious occasions from the 12th century onward. As materials, such pictures should of course be well preserved; as non - materials, they should also be earnestly studied as an important heritage of traditional Chinese culture.
