Wavelet packet decomposition （WPD） is widely used in power system to determine harmonics, because it has the characteristics of high - precision in frequency spectrum analysis. But the computational complexity of WPD limits its use in real - time metering. A new method of applying the IIR elliptic half - band filters to the analysis of wavelet packet harmonics is presented. Our research reveals that the proposed method can reduce the computational complexity to levels comparable to FFT. The efficiency of the method is proved by the simulation and test results.
