"诚意"作为儒家基本修养工夫之一,其内涵在朱熹以"心主性情"观为核心的心性论中得到进一步的阐发和完善。文章通过分析"诚"、"意"以及相关文本认为,其含义包括道德活动中动机的纯粹性和意志的坚决性,以及内化道德意识为道德责任感的过程和时时提撕此心保持精神动力的作用。而诚意与致知、正心的关系以及此在工夫修养中的地位也就一目了然。

As a basic self-cultivation kung-fu of the Confueians, ＂conscientiousness＂ should be further expounded and improved under Chu Hsi＇ s core philosophy that mentality determines temper. The connotation of ＂honesty＂ and ＂intention＂ includes the purity of motivation in mor- al activity and the determination of will ;furthermore it is also the mental drive as moral respon- sibility （the internalized awareness of morality）. Therefore the significance of the relation of honest intention, harmonious will, and sense of justice in developing the level of Kung-fu.
