五四时期的历史小说是文化转型与历史观念革命的产物,成为新文学小说一个重要的门类。其时历史小说理论建设抓住了"历史"与"小说"关系的关键,创作实践则以现代意识重新表现历史和历史人物,体现了古今历史小说质的区别,显示了历史小说创作广阔的艺术空间,在历史小说创作的若干重要问题上,积累了可资借鉴的宝贵经验。

Historical novels,during the period of May 4^th Movement, are the production of May 4^th Movement cultural transformation and historical viewpoint revolution. At that time,its theoretical construction of the historical novels grasps the key of the relationship between ＂his- tory＂ and ＂novel＂ ,and its writing practice redisplays history and historic figures with the mod- ern consciousness, which reflected essential differences between ancient novels and modern ones, showed broad artistic space of the writing of historical novels, and accumulated precious experiences, which can be borrowed, for Chinese modern historical novels with respect for some major problems about the ~riting of historical novels.
