摘要
本文在对宁波诺丁汉大学第一学年的英语教学情况跟踪调查的基础上,对其“学术英语”(English for Acadenfic Purposes)教学模式的成功要素进行了分析,并结合中国大学英语教学的特点,对我国大学英语教学的一些重要环节提出具体改革建议。文章指出,宁波诺丁汉大学“学术英语”教学模式的成功主要得益于以下几个方面:(1)学校定位清楚,英语教学定位明确;(2)需求分析到位;(3)课程设计合理;(4)学习材料丰富,教材选用科学;(5)课堂教学有效;(6)教师专业、敬业,具有良好的“自主”意识.
Based on an investigation into the teaching of English in the first year at UNNC ( The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China) , this paper analyzes the factors that contribute to the success of the EAP ( English for Academic Purposes) Model implemented at UNNC and provides a number of suggested solutions to some of the problems in ELT in universities in China, It points out that all the following factors have played a role in making the EAP Model a success at UNNC: ( 1 ) clear objectives for the university and for ELT to the students, (2) a detailed and thorough needs analysis, (3) a sound course design, (4) rich and muhi-modal learning resources, (5) effective classroom instruction, and (6) hardworking high-quality teachers and management.
